In May, the Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative (GGMC) Secretariat team came together in Durham, NC, USA, for a day-long advance to discuss the current activities and future initiatives of GGMC and its two consortia – the Global Genomic Medicine Consortium (G2MC) and the International Health Cohorts Consortium (IHCC).
While the team discussed current activities and progress, the main focus of the advance was the future of GGMC, including the urgent need for funding to sustain GGMC’s vital work.
The Driving Forces Behind GGMC
GGMC’s mission is driven by its dedicated leadership teams and expert consortia, G2MC and IHCC. These teams, comprising global leaders in the fields of genomic medicine and health sciences, spearhead collaborative efforts to transform healthcare worldwide.
While GGMC’s leadership teams volunteer their expertise, the Secretariat, a dedicated team of part-time workers, serves as the organization’s operational backbone. By supporting areas including program and project management, budgeting, funding and grants, IT, public relations, and communications, the Secretariat ensures GGMC’s initiatives are executed seamlessly, propelling the field of genomic medicine forward.
